Kerong Li and Jean-Francois Brunot produced a fantastic performance for Leipert Motorsport during the Hankook 6H Abu Dhabi today, to deliver a very competitive top five finish – the highest placed Lamborghini Huracan GT3 pairing.
Brunot qualified fifth fastest for the race at Yas Marina Circuit, but an unfortunate track limits penalty dropped the No.10 Lamborghini down to 15th place on the overall grid. Putting in a searing first half-hour of racing, the American sliced through the field remarkably into the top four.
Chinese racer Li climbed behind the wheel at the first pit-stop, around 75 minutes into the contest, and worked his way back up into fourth position before Brunot returned to the driving seat around the halfway point of the race.
Closing on the podium placings, Brunot then took the lead during hour four and remained at the front for around 15 minutes as more pit-stops played out. After the next refuelling stop he was in third spot and running very competitively, the Leipert car not missing a beat.
Handing over to Li for the last hour of action, with 45 minutes to go he was fifth and stayed there to the chequered flag at 20.30 local time to secure the top five result.
