One Point Separating the TEC Teams

It was a gripping event at the most recent 24H Barcelona as the new Overall Teams current leaders CWS Engineering and their closest rival Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing head into the Coppa Florio 12H Sicily.

Adding to the thrill there is currently only one point separating the TEC teams following a win and second place in-class. Thankfully CWS Engineering survived an unusual incident at the recent Hankook 24H Barcelona which secured both their second outright TCE podium of the season along with their second category win of 2021. Due to their impressive performance this boosted the British team to the top spot of the overall TEC Teams’ standings. Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing also showcased a powerful finish at the Hankook 24H Barcelona which recorded their third consecutive win of the series.

The #112 Volkswagen Golf GTI driven by Sigitas Ambrazevicius, Vytenis Gulbinas, Aruna Geciauskas and Paul Sieljel all enjoyed a smooth error free run to the finishing flag. Meanwhile the sister vehicle #1 was running comfortably in third position until Constantin Kletzer who raced alongside Jasmin Preisig, Emil Heyerdahl and Roberto Ferri, was unfortunately pushed into the gravel trap at turn seven by the CP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Thankfully with the #112 Volkswagen Golf GTI finishing ahead of the leading #1 Golf GTI, this earned twenty-six points for second place overall. Nonetheless this was not quite enough for them to get ahead and retain the leading position leaving just one point separating the TEC teams.

Despite still qualifying CWS Engineering were very much in recovery mode following the strange incident that unfolded for them at turn one after six hours of racing. Here we witnessed the wheel hub failure that led to the front left wheel fully detaching itself. This forced Ginetta to run wide through the run off area where he then hit a sausage kerb in the process which subsequently led to even more damage.

Although there were many series of events for both teams at the 24H Barcelona, both teams still head into the second last and all important round of the 2021 24H Series in Sicily on October 1 – 3. With just one point separating the TEC Teams, it is fair to say we can’t wait to see who will receive the winning position.
