Scott McKenna is set to join John Ferguson at speedworks, among the first membersof the new Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Young Driver Programme.
McKenna joins Ferguson at Speedworks and will be at the wheel of the GT Supra GT4. Ferguson had previously challenged the Carrera Cup GB in 2019 and crossed the checkered flag in third place in the Am class. He also raced in the same class in 2020 but spent the majority of his amateur motorsport racing career in domestic Formula Ford 1600 series.
As McKenna joins Ferguson at Speedworks, he also switched from a 911 to the Supra not long after his fast and impressive rise through the junior ranks. McKenna’s families ice driving business on the frozen lakes of Scandinavia exposed him to an opportunity to perfect his skill of car control before he went on to win the Ginette GT5 Championship back in 2019.
At just nineteen years of age, he has now earned his place where he will spend his third full season of racing leading Speedworks UK Young Driver Programme. McKenna will also get to enjoy privileged access to TGR-E’s state of the art Cologne facility along with driving simulators. In tandem with drawing upon the team and Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe’s combined experience; McKenna will also benefit immensely from the experience of reigning FIA World Endurance Champion and multiple LE Mans 24 Hour superstar Mike Conway.
As McKenna joins Ferguson at Speedworks, he speaks of his gratitude and the great honour he feels to have this opportunity and to be selected for the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Young Driver Programme. His name will remain well known as he has set a record of becoming the first member to be chosen for such a brilliant initiative. For many years prior, McKenna has had his eyes set on competing at Le Mans and believes that through working with such an influencing brand as Toyota Gazoo he intends to work hard to reach his next milestone with hopes that British GQ will be the next on his bucket list.
