Jos Verstappen Plans His Return

A previous Grand Prix podium finisher, Jos Verstappen plans his return with hopes of racing a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the 2022 Hankook 24H Dubai.

With a highly impressive past experience, Jos Verstappen is set to return to the track with a bang. Jos is set to race at the Hankook 24H in Dubai in none other than a 922-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entered by Team GP-Elite. With many Formula 1 starts between the years of 1994 and 2003 for seven different teams in total; Verstappen has not raced much since the stand-alone ‘City Challenge Baku’ GT3 event in 2012.

Thierry Vermeulen is confirmed to share driving duties with Verstappen who has since taken on the role of racing coach. Thierry has also experienced a lot of success this year as he entered his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux alongside a race with Assen under his belt. In advance of his partnership with Verstappen, Vermeulen has already had an opportunity to compete in the 24H Series this year at the Hockenheimring where he teamed up with MRS GT Racing. He also raced in Barcelona with Red Camel-Jordans.nl where he secured a GTX-class podium position.

As Joe Verstappen plans his return and is expected to compete at the 2022 Hankook 24H Dubai, this event will also mark GP-Elite’s maiden endurance race after a number of Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Supercup campaigns.

With many fans looking forward to seeing Verstappen race again, it was an extra surprise to hear that he has in fact not ruled out the possibility of further 24H Series starts in 2022. Verstappen expressed how much he enjoys racing and feels that an exciting opportunity has come together nicely for himself and Vermeulen and wonders if it may grow into a sequel – depending on how much he enjoys the initial race.

GP-Elite are yet to confirm their full driver line-up but have confirmed that they will indeed run two Porsche 911 GT3 Cups in Dubai in the coming months. As Jos Verstappen plans his return, spectators can expect to experience his racing debut unfold on 13, 14 & 15 January 2022 at the Dubai Autodrome.
