Great news for Herberth Motorsport as they have won the recent 2021 12H Mugello on the 27th of March.
This makes them the only three time winner ever of the event – following their wins in 2015 and 2020 too. The Porsche team dipped down to fourth place after leading in pole position, but was able to claw back to victory with some spectacular and precise racing from the Bavarian team. Therefore they make history with three wins under their belt.
Talking to radiolemans.com, team member Robert Renauer explained: “It was a brilliant race for us: brilliant pit stops; no mistakes; really good teamwork; and we were confident we had enough fuel for another 10 minutes. I want to thank all of my guys. This is a great result!” It was a nail-biting race which saw the likes of pit stop scrambles, close call challenges, extravagant manoeuvres, broken steering and more from all on the track at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.
It was a close call for the Scuderia Praha Ferrari 488 GT3 as they have already twice won the 12H Mugello and at the 2021 12H Mugello they secured a second place finish. Had they had token the pole position, they would be the ones making the historic third win instead. Either way it was a celebratory occasion for the team as this gave them their first podium finish at this event since 2019 – securing their place by a mere ten seconds.
There is more endurance racing scheduled in the coming months, in France with 12H Circuit Paul Ricard coming on the 23rd – 24th of April and then the 12H Hockenheimring in Germany following on the 22nd – 23rd of May.
