Exciting news this week for all e-sport motorsport fans as Motorsport Games and Codemasters have come together to announce that the second season of DIRT RALLY 2.0 World Series will commence this month, on the 25th of August 2020. They have also confirmed that the first qualification round of this race will go live in-game!
The prize for the winner of this rally will be a share of a $20,000 prize pool where we will see the twelve drivers race for the win in a live showpiece final taking place at the Autosport International Show at the Birmingham NEC on the 16th of January 2021. Not only will the winner of this spectacle win a substantial cash prize, but they will also win themselves a test drive in the new QEV Electric rallycross car, which is set to power the new FIA erX2 Championship.
Another exciting factor to DiRT Rally Season Two is that each player that takes part in any of the qualifiers will automatically receive the Ford Fiesta R5 MKII as a free DiRT Rally 2.0 in-game vehicle. The Ford Fiesta has been designed specifically by M-Sport and is equipped with the latest ST-Line body shell, along with other exciting features such as the new chassis and engine and the aggressive anti-lag system.
The world series DiRT Rally 2.0 has followed the close success of the first season alongside the successful and entertaining World RX eSports series which gained over 2.24 million live views at its peak. Ross Gowing, game director of the DiRT Rally, stated that this series has exceeded the expectations of the production team in term of the levels of participant engagement they have already received. He stated that he is delighted to see that the exciting prize of the Ford Fiesta R5 has incentivised so many participants of all levels to get involved.
Pere Gonzales who is the current project manager for the new FIA eRX2 Championship has also expressed his excitement to collaborate with Codemasters and Motorsports Games for such an exciting rally.
There has been an explosion of interest in eSports in recent months, particularly amongst a demographic of younger fans equipped with a great skill to transform into real-life racers. It is expected to be a very exciting display watching the DiRT Rally Season Two unfold across the three qualifying stages. The top fastest races will earn a spot in the semi final before the exciting live final in January next year.
